Farmer's Market

Last week-end we went to the Farmers Market in Carrboro.  And it did not disappoint.  The produce was really beautiful and different types of lettuce and radishes that I had never heard of.  This cute little girl was eating a home grown tomato and loving it.  They also had flowers, homemade peanut butters, jams, local cheeses, and fruits.  I'm sure we will go back soon.

Day 24 Photo

Day 24-Photo
One of my favorite things--
There she is.  My BEST FRIEND.  This girl came into my life 12 years ago.  She has been with me through good & bad.  Her unconditional love and devotion has help me through loneliness,  depression, fear, and shared fun times with me.  She goes everywhere with me.  She has moved with me from Prescott, AZ, to Salt Lake City, to Carson City, NV, to Pleasant Hill, CA, back to Salt Lake City, and now traveled all the way across the United States to North Carolina.
  I Love my "Sugar dog".

Not what I Planned- but this is life

Sunday Devotional--'Not what I Planned'  Read: Psalm 37:1-8
This isn't the way I expected my life to be.  I wanted to marry at 19, have a half dozen children, and settle into life as a wife and mother.  But instead I went to work, married in my forties, and never had children.  For a number of years I was hopeful that Psalm 37:4 might be for me a God-guaranteed promise;  "He shall give you the desires of your heart."
But God doesn't always "bring it to pass" (v.5), and unmet desires stir up occasional sadness.  Like mine, your life may have turned.  A few thoughts from Psalm 37 may be helpful (even though the psalm is primarily about comparing ourselves to the wicked).
We learn from verse 4 that unfulfilled desires don't have to take the joy out of life.  As we get to know God's heart.  He becomes our joy.
"Commit your way to the Lord" (v.5).  The word  commit means "to roll".  Bible teacher Herbert Lockyear, Sr., says,  "Roll thy way upon the Lord as one who lays upon the shoulders  of one stronger than himself a burden which he is not able to bear."
Trust also in Him" (v. 5).  When we confidently entrust everything to God, we can 'rest in the Lord" (v.7).  For He is bringing about His BEST for our lives.  -Anne Cetas

"As I walk along life's pathway,
Though the way I cannot see.
I shall follow in His footsteps,
For He has a plan for me."
-Thiesen

Yesterday was the first time David was able to have a contact visit.  It has been 3 years, 10 months, and 1 day since we (his parents) have been able to touch our son.
Steve was able to go visit him, hug him, touch him, kiss him, for us.  David was able to spend hours with his dad playing chess, Texas hold 'em poker, eat lunch together, and laugh and joke.  By the way, David beat his dad at chess 3 times, but not at poker.  They had a great visit.   I can hardly wait till I get to Arizona to hold my little 'red-head man'.
I am so grateful for this small blessing for us at this time.

Day 18 Photo- Hair

Day 18 Photo-  HAIR     While on my  walk today I found this Giant Mammoth Moth with a 'Hairy' body.
It is so beautiful. The antennae are so cool.  They look like tiny feathers.  The body is covered in chestnut & white fuzzy hair.   A bird was attacking it so I rescued it.  After they come out of their cocoon the don't eat and have a life span of about 1 week.  (Unless, a bird gets them first)

Day 17 Photo- Something you don't like

This is not the way I wanted my walk to end yesterday!
After enjoying a wonderful walk yesterday, feeling happy & good. Seeing wild flowers, interesting trees, kids playing soccer, men playing softball, deer coming out to graze, and cool weather, this is what we walked up on on our way back to the car.  Yes, folks a Copperhead snake!
Now, I don't mind snakes, UNLESS they are poisonous and that kinda Freaked me out!  So, I plan to look where I'm walking a little more instead of looking up at all the different tree leaves, squirrels and birds.

A Copperhead snake bite needs medical attention, is extremely painful, and may cause extensive scarring and loss of use. Many people are bitten while trying to kill or handle the snake. Don't take chances -- avoid these snakes. "Copperhead bites are typically not fatal," says Dr. Peter Bromley, N. C. Cooperative Extension Specialist in Zoology. Small animals, like small dogs, may receive a fatal bite from a copperhead. The venom causes local tissue destruction and secondary infection often sets in. If you or your pet are bitten by any snake that you suspect is venomous, get medial attention immediately. For the most part, if you let snakes alone, they'll leave you alone. North Carolina has the dubious distinction of the most venomous snake bites of any state in the U.S. Many of these bites could be prevented by avoiding the snake instead of trying to kill it or pick it up. Avoid Copperhead snakes! Allow it to go on its way undisturbed. Copperheads bite more people in most years than any other U.S. species, but they also have the mildest venom. University of Georgia Professor Dr. Whit Gibbons is conducting research to learn why copperheads inflict the most bites. All the snake species tested have had the same initial response to human presence. If given the opportunity, they escape--down a hole, under a ledge, or in the case of cottonmouths, into the water. Escape is even the standard behavior of enormous diamondback rattlesnakes, which will immediately disappear if they have enough warning before they think a person can reach them. But often escape is not possible, so most snakes hold their ground, ready to defend themselves. A difference between copperheads and the other species appears in the next phase, when they are approached. Most rattlesnakes vibrate their tails and most cottonmouths sit with mouth open when a human comes near. Even some non-venomous snakes vibrate their tails. These displays are merely warnings not to tread on them. They are not aggressive attack measures. The snakes just want us to leave them alone. So far, the dozens of cottonmouths Dr. Gibbons stood beside have made threat displays but have not bitten the researcher's boot. The same has been true for canebrake rattlesnakes although too few have been tested to declare that they are as passive as cottonmouths. The exciting news (at least for the researchers) is that the copperhead is different from the others. Most copperheads tested have struck out immediately when they felt threatened. This behavior explains why more people receive legitimate snakebites from copperheads than from any other species of venomous snake in North America. Still to be investigated is another aspect of copperhead bites: many are not serious enough to require more than minor medical treatment. This may be so not only because the venom of a copperhead is significantly less potent than that of rattlesnakes or cottonmouths, but also because they seldom inject much venom. The copperhead's initial threat display is to strike. It lashes out at an enemy as a warning. If the enemy is close enough, the fangs may penetrate the skin. However, because this is a threat display, not an attempt to kill, the snake injects little venom. A copperhead has no intention of wasting valuable venom if it can scare away the menace with a minor bite. Keep in mind, however, that even a non-fatal bite needs medical attention, is extremely painful, and may cause extensive scarring and loss of use. Don't take chances-- avoid these snakes. Whit Gibbons is the Senior Professor of Ecology at the University of Georgia's Savannah River Ecology Laboratory in Aiken, South Carolina.

Day 16 Photo- Flower.
Everyday I go for walk, I see beauty all around.  This Iris was just growing by itself in a field.  You can see some yellow in the background along a creek area.  These were just growing wild.  North Carolina is so beautiful.  Forests and new trees and plants all around me.  I love it.

Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery.
While in Washington DC we visited Arlington.  I must admit I was truly touch.
On several occasions, to my surprise, while walking around, I choked back tears.
A sense of gratitude to these men and women and their families just came over me more intense than
ever before.
I learned a lot, and understand more.

Day 15- SUNSET

Day 15-  A little family Soccer game before the sunsets.  Lexi and Brandi were Team Gecko, and played hard.  Matt and Anna were Team Squirrel, and squeaked by for the win.

Day 14- How I'm feeling today

Having a lot of pain today.  Having a nerve test done on Monday, to check for nerve damage.  I'm trying to avoid having another surgery.  My new Doctor here is trying to find an alternative.  For now, I'm on some new medicine.  It helps a little, but the numbness and chronic pain is always here, just at varying degrees.  I feel better when I exercise lightly and that's one reason why....
        "I gotta keep movin'! "

Washington DC

Thomas Jefferson-  Pretty smart guy.    When we arrived in Washington DC this was the 1st monument we went to.  I felt like; these children look.  Amazed at the size and wondered, 'What exactly did this guy do to get so big.'  It made me want to know more about our history, as a country.  It made me want to know more.  And learn more.

I'm having trouble posting my pictures in my picasa folder to my blog.  More to come.

Colour

We went to Duke Gardens and captured some nice shots of the spring flowers in bloom. Pretty nice.

Things I see when I walk

These are funny little inch worms.  I love watching them inch their way around.  It's hilarious.
Now, these worms/catapillars make these huge thick nests in trees.  I don't know what they are, and I've never seen anything like it.  Creepy, yet cool.
Bark-  I've been noticing all different kinds of trees that I've never been around before.
