This is what the A & W Root beer Stand looked like that Ronna worked at. We had one like this on Main street and Mesa Drive. You could sit in your car and a car hop would come out with a tray that hooked onto the window.
Then there was another A & W out in East Mesa and I think both Vallerie and Ronna worked at that one. It was always such a fun, cool treat to go and get a root beer float on a hot summer day. They were the best. I'm sure Ronna has more memories she could tell us.

My very first job,was at the
A&W in East Mesa. The stand looked very much like the one your picture, instead of asphalt, it was just desert dirt. I would sit in the shade up next to the window so I could get a little A/C relief in the hot summer. Yep, I was a carhop! No roller skates, just alot of dust!
I liked my job very much. I could have a Root Beer whenever I wanted, but only one frosted mug. Those mugs were hard to keep frosted when we were busy on hot summer days.
I would always order french fries for my lunch and my boss would say, "ketchup with those?" I would always say, "No Thank-you" He would say, "You don't know what you're missing, you should try it just once" So..I tried it, and I have been eating ketchup with my fries ever since!
Thanks Ronna, I knew you would know more and have good memories.
I remember that A&W...barely...but I do remember.
My fondest memories of A&W are the days when I could actually enjoy one without gaining a few pounds.
One of the best and most refreshing treats, ever!
