While reading my daily devotional today, I realized that I really don't know a lot about Joseph. I know he was a carpenter, which is hard work. I know he loved and took care of Mary. I know he had other children, and that's about it. Here's a few scriptures about Joseph I thought I'd share.
Matthew 1:18-25
18-Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, : which is translated, "God be with us." Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called his name Jesus.
Joseph, though silent, through his example, is described as a just & compassionate man, committed to obedience of God's will.

Can you imagine visiting with Joseph? He could fill us in on the details of what it was like to raise Jesus. As parents we all enjoy our little ones antics. He must of some stories to share!
The scriptures shed a light on many qualities of this faithful man. He was KIND. An example of his kindness was his determination to end his engagement with Mary, DISCREETly. He must have been somewhat confused by this pregnancy, as he knew Mary to be a spiritual faithful woman. Joseph no doubt PRAYED to Jehovah, TRUSTING his heavenly father for an answer to this dilema. Jehovah answered in a dream. This was to be God's Son by holy spirit. Joseph was to name him Jesus. It took COURAGE for Joseph to take on this responsibility. He exercised SELF CONTROL in not having relations with his God-fearing wife, thereby, maintaining Mary's virginity until after the birth of Jesus. He was also OBEDIENT taking his pregnant wife to Bethelem for the census. And he was a HUMBLE man providing two turledoves for the sacrifice of his firstborn. So Joseph was CONTENT with having the neccessities of life. Yes, he FOCUSED ON SPIRITUAL THINGS which is in evidence when he brought his entire family to worship with him to the temple in Jerusalem. (A very long and expensive trip) Even though it meant a material sacrifice on his part.
