For my Children and Grand-children
Places I made a point to go see before I left the Indiana. Above & below is a picture of the 'Gary Bathhouse'. It is a historic building from the 1930's. They are presently restoring it. You can rent it for Weddings, parties, anniversaries, etc. It sits right on Michigan Lake Beach and you can see the Chicago skyline on the balcony. Beautiful building.
I stopped by the Indiana Dunes National Park where there is a really cool farm, and hiking trails, and beautiful forest. The beach is only like, 0.7 miles to hike to.
This building is at the dunes, where Nancy walks alot. I think mom will recognize this one.
This red brick building is where my Grandma & Grandpa Criswell's Shoe shop was, and my mom grew up.
It also is the first house Sheila lived in, and the last house I lived in before we left for Arizona in a truck named DOROVASASH. My Dad had a degree in his back pocket, my mom with a 6 week old baby named Sheila, on her lap, and 3 other daughters in the camper on the back, and a Whole lot of Faith. ('cuz that's how we roll.)
The house in Gary, Indiana. Where I was born. People ask if I remember living there? It think I remember the back yard being like a forest. I think I remember looking out the window in the living room. and the driveway having snow on it. But that's about it. It is only a few blocks away from the beach.
Those things were important for me to go see. I wanted my children and grand-children to know where I come from. And, where their Aunts, Grand-parents, and Great-grandparents come from. A very different life than Arizona.
